General Information

If you're registered for a pitch or consult with an agent or editor, here is the information you'll need to be aware of before the conference in September. Please note the due date for Manuscript Consults. Emails will be sent to all registered attendees with the time slot for your appointment with one of our special guests. Please be respectful of the challenges involved in coordinating these meetings virtually and be ready at least 5 minutes before your meeting’s start time.

DON'T:
* Be late
* Come unprepared
* Overstress or worry (Agents and editors are book lovers just like you and they want to love your story!)

DO:
* Smile, breathe, be confident--not self-depreciating
* Wear professional attire
* Take notes
* Arrive 5 minutes early for your session
* Know the agent/editor you're pitching to, be familiar with other books they've repped and what they're looking for
* Be gracious--No matter the outcome, thank them for their time
* If they request a full or partial manuscript, make sure to follow their submission instructions

Manuscript Consults

These 20-minute critique sessions are for a ONE page query letter plus the first TEN pages of your manuscript. The agent/editor will pre-read the pages prior to your session and provide detailed feedback. It is imperative to send your pages by the due date as we send these in one batch to our agents/editors.

The pages are due by THURSDAY, AUGUST 13, 2020 at midnight MST/AZ.

Submission instructions:
* Include the query and first ten pages in a single attachment (MS Word, Google Doc, or PDF). The pages should be formatted as follows:
* Double spaced
* 12 point, Times New Roman font
* One inch margins
* Include a title page with the title of your book, your name, and the genre (this is not part of your total pages)
* Save the document as YourName-Agent/EditorName-Consult Type. Example: “BobBobberson-LisaMangum-QueryConsult”
* EXCEPTION: Your query letter should be single spaced
* Materials submissions are being accept via google form. See button below.

Information will be sent out before conference, detailing the time of your session.

Query Consults

Normally, attendees do not submit query consult materials in advance. Due to the nature of the virtual conference, organizers are asking that they be submitted via google form to simplify the virtual consult process and give our agents/editors time to study your materials in advance of you meeting should they wish.

Materials are due by THURSDAY, AUGUST 27, 2020 at midnight MST/AZ.

*You may also include the first page of your manuscript in the document, but the agent/editor may or may not look at it depending on time constraints.
* A query letter should be no more than one page, single-spaced, 12 point, Times New Roman font, and one-inch margins. Check the conference Facebook group for query writing tips.
* The first page of your manuscript should follow the same rules as above, but be double-spaced.
* Save the document as YourName-Agent/EditorName-Consult Type. Example: “BobBobberson-LisaMangum-QueryConsult”
* Materials submissions are being accept via google form. See button below.

Information will be sent out before conference, detailing the time of your session.

Pitch Sessions

Pitch session are 10 minutes where an author has a chance to give a short verbal introduction to a manuscript-typically around 30 seconds or less-and an agent or editor asks questions in order to learn more. Some authors may choose to write down their pitch on a notecard, which can be brought to the session.

Instructions:
* Practice, practice, practice!
* Make sure your pitch is clear and concise, giving enough interesting or unique details to be intriguing, but not so much that it's a synopsis and you don't leave questions to be asked by the agent/editor. Try to summarize your entire project in one or two catchy sentences. Check the conference Facebook group for pitch writing tips.
* Be ready to answer questions about your manuscript.
* Basic Structure: Basic Pitch Formula: “Main character wants [GOAL] but [OBSTACLE] is in the way. They must [ACT/DECIDE] or [CONSEQUENCE/DOOM] will happen.”

Information will be sent out before conference, detailing the time of your session.
